The purpose of God in creating mankind in His image is to resemble the nature of God in us. After the fall of man, the image and likeness of God were not intact, in fact the image of God was impaired to a great extent. In Genesis 9:6, it says that “Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.”

With the likeness of God gone, the image was impaired. As humans, we lost our moral attributes. God was our moral compass and we did not have that aspect of God in us after the fall. In essence, we were wandering about without a moral compass—we were lost.

God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. .^{[Jn. 3:16]}

Jesus said of his divine purpose, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.^[Jn. 10:10]

Mark says that Jesus came to “give his life as a ransom for many”;^[Mk. 10:45] Luke, that he was sent to “preach the good news of the Kingdom of God“;^[Lk. 4:43] and John, that he came so that “those who believed in him would have eternal life”.^[Jn. 20:3]

If the mission of Jesus Christ was to seek and save the lost, the commission of Jesus Christ is to go and preach the good news to all mankind. Sharing the good news of restoration, to repent and turn to God, so that He will forgive our sins and restore the lost relationship with God.
